Happy Holidays, everyone! This weekend will mark less than two weeks until we find out if we made it onto Santa's Nice List. Can you believe it? Here at FloDance, we’re taking a break from shopping and gift wrapping to attend Christmas in Dixie, the final UCWDC competition before Worlds! That means it’s sure to be an exciting weekend.

Good cheer is sure to be abundant at this holiday-themed competition, with plenty of dancing schedule over the course of three days. ProAm Intermediate and Advanced dancers kick things off on Friday, including Paul Grande and his teacher Vickie Rose. Paul has been a dancing machine this year, competing in a total of 12 competitions so far in eight different divisions. In Birmingham, he’ll be dancing in ProAm Male Diamond Intermediate, Silver Intermediate and Gold Intermediate (Diamond, Silver, and Gold being the age group designations).

Couples Open Divisions I and II and Couples Crown will light up the stage Friday night. Five couples are registered for Open Division I, including Amanda Clark and Christopher Muise. It should be an interesting division to watch, as several of the couples have all had their own success at different events throughout the season. There is no obvious winner coming into the event, which means every couple will need to be at their best if they hope to finish the 2019 season on a high note.

The ProAm Newcomer and Novice divisions dance through Saturday morning and afternoon. The floor will certainly be busy during these events, with as many as 13 couples registered to compete. The afternoon concludes with some fun ProAm Jack ‘n Jill Two Step and Swing competitions before the highly anticipated Classic Masters couples take the floor Saturday night.

Top Classic Masters couple Newell Defreest & Rachel Mercedes will be competing, along with Mike Wagner & Satu Ketellapper, and Ronnie DeBenedetta & Brittney Valdez. All three couples have done well this year, so this is another event where there is no clear winner right off the bat. You’ll just have to watch and see what happens!

As always, if you can’t make it in person, we’d love for you to join us live on FloDance. Don’t forget, live coverage of the 2020 UCWDC World Championships will begin on December 30th in Nashville, TN.  Get ready for some serious holiday cheer and let’s dance!
