The season premiere of the highly anticipated "World of Dance" competition on NBC did not disappoint on Tuesday night. Entertaining and inspiring from beginning to end, the new TV show from producer Jennifer Lopez has its sights on becoming the "Olympics of dance" by bringing some of the world's best dancers together for a 10-week contest and $1 million prize.

Competition Rules

Each act is judged on five categories: performance, technique, choreography, creativity, and presentation. And over the next 10 weeks, dancers will go through 10 elimination rounds until we are left with a winner.

Dancers compete in one of three divisions: Junior (18 or younger), Upper (up to four dancers over the age of 18), and Team (groups with over five dancers). One winner from each division will go to the final round and battle it out for the winning prize money and title of Best Dancer(s) in the World.

The Judges

The judging panel consist of singer and dancer Ne-Yo, six-time "Dancing with the Stars" champion Derek Hough, and the incredibly talented singer, actress, and dancer Lopez.

You could feel the excitement in all the judges last night but especially Lopez. Sitting front and center with her bright red lips and matching dress, she looked flawless and her excitement was palpable. Her kind yet honest judging style was similar to what we've seen from her as a judge on "American Idol."

Ne-Yo, a singer and accomplished dancer himself, sat to the right of Lopez, and based on Tuesday night's show contestants can count on Ne-Yo to provide clear, concise, and constructed feedback.

Hough, the ballroom dance expert of the show, was high energy, even getting out of his seat to show off some technical moves. He brings a ballroom flare to the panel, and dancers can depend on him to give practical feedback.

Hey, I know them…

Many of the acts from the show's premiere may be familiar to dance fans obsessed with YouTube sensations such as Les Twins. The group has been going viral with its awe-inspiring, intricate moves for years and has acquired many fans, including Jay-Z and Beyonce, who has performed and toured with Les Twins as her backup dancers since 2011. They received the highest score in the show on Tuesday night, and the respect that the other dancers in the show have for them is apparent.

Other recognizable acts from the show include the adorable married couple, Keone and Mari, who have garnered a massive amount of YouTube views themselves and former "America's Best Dance Crew" season two champion Super Cr3w and season eight runner-up Kinjaz.

The show was all we could have hoped it to be: entertaining, mesmerizing, and inspiring. Check back here next week for another review and breakdown of episode two. "World of Dance" airs Tuesdays at 10 PM ET/PT on NBC.  In the meantime, check out this dance video of Lopez and the show's host, Jenna Dewan Tatum -- they kill it!
