Arunas And Katusha | Best Of All Time?
Arunas And Katusha | Best Of All Time?
Arunas and Katusha are argueably the best ballroom dancers of all time.
Arunas Bizokas and Katusha Demidova have been an irrepressible power team since the moment they began dancing together in 2007.
Within a mere three months of their union, the couple won the Ohio Star ball and placed second in the UK Open Championships, an unheard of accomplishment for such a new couple. It took only a year for the pair to reach the ranks of Top Ballroom Professionals, and less than two years for them to claim the title of world champions.
Bizokas and Demidova have been the World Professional Ballroom champions for a stunning 10 years straight and have won the British Open title nine years in a row. However, due to sickness and the inability to compete, the couple lost their title this past May to another USA-based couple, Victor Fung and Anastasia Muravyova.
The couple never seemed to relax even after reaching the highest possible rank in their profession. Instead, they continually work to improve their dancing for the enjoyment of their audience as well as themselves.
Demidova began dancing at a young age in her home country of Russia. At 16, she began dancing as a professional with her teacher in the standard category. Before dancing with Arunas, Demidova was partnered with Jonathan Wilkins of England. That partnership lasted 11 years from 1996 to 2007 before Demidova broke their union to join with Bizokas. Between both partners, Katusha has held the U.S. National Professional Standard Championship since 1998 and 2017 marked her 20th title win.
Demidova talks to famed adjudicator Rufus Dustin about her 20th national title win:
Bizokas hails from Lithuania and also began dancing at a very young age with encouragement from his mother. Bizokas tried a variety of sports before deciding to focus on dance.
His partner before Demidova was Edita Daniute, who also hailed from Lithuania, and they began dancing together when Bizokas was only 13 years old. The couple won many titles in their time together, including the 2005 World Games recognized by the International Olympic Committee under WDSF rules.
In 2007, Bizokas began dancing with Demidova, making the switch from WDSF to WDC competitions. After 10 years of dancing together the couple is at the top of their game remaining and is arguably the best Ballroom couple that has ever existed.
We were lucky enough to get the chance to follow these two superstars of the dancesport world around for a day as they prepared for the 2017 Blackpool Championships. Check it out below.
